Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When period four comes around, all students know it is time to read. I want to ensure that my students' desire to read never waivers. I don't want to hear "I read that already." Instead, I want my classroom library to be full of new opportunities for students to quench their thirst for reading.
I am an 8th grade teacher in Washington Heights.
My school includes a large population of English Language Learners, who have a passion to grasp the language through reading and writing. Many of my students don't always have books and reading material readily available to them and I want the lack of resources to be one less obstacle they have to face.
My Project
My students will use their stamina reading time to embark on reading journeys. They will sit on the carpets in my room, sit tight in their chairs or rest their backs on pillows to travel through the pages of new books. Once a week we will utilize the classroom magazines to increase our knowledge of current events.
This project will improve my classroom because it will let the students know that our school community is not just confined to the walls of our school building.
Having high interest reading material will enhance classroom discussions and reading and writing will continue to flourish.
