Just like your daughter, my students are all in mainstream settings, relying on their personal hearing devices and the assistive technology we provide them with, in order to access the curriculum. As a traveling teacher of the d/Deaf and hard of hearing, having an iPad has been an absolute game changer. I now have all of the resources I need for each individual student all in one easy-to-carry place. The ability to use a touchscreen opens up many more possibilities for differentiated instruction. From self-advocacy activities from Success for Kids with Hearing Loss, to customized Pink Cat Game quizzes that help my students build their background knowledge so they can excel in classes like science and social studies, the resources now available to them have increased exponentially because of your donation. \r\n\r\nMany of my students also have other diagnoses, such as dysgraphia. When the option to write with the Apple Pencil is available, their output skyrockets. One student in particular is Izzy M., a 4th-grade student with ADHD and dysgraphia as well as bilateral hearing loss. Not only has her writing output increased substantially, but she has also begun to illustrate her stories, something she refused outright before. Seeing her not only express herself with the written word, but also through art, has been incredibly rewarding. \r\n\r\nFinally, I just want to personally thank you for making me feel seen and appreciated. My students and I are truly grateful. I wish you and your daughter the very best, and send my best wishes to her TOD as well.
