My students need a more efficient way of viewing the lesson in the classroom. This tablet will allow me to show students more, create more, and provide a better education.
My classroom is full of various levels of learning, skills and study habits. I have students that work better in groups, partners, or by themselves. I have students that are ready for higher level of thinking and some that are still struggling with the basics. Though all of my students have a need to learn and to be challenged. And all of my students live in a world of technology. One of the things I pride myself on, is teaching students that wanting to learn more or expanding on what they already know, is important. And this project, hopefully, will allow for more individual and small group instruction to help all the various levels of learning I have in my classroom.
Students are always the center of my teaching.
For the past 5 years I have been using different kinds of technology that has allowed me to move around my room. Students are center of my teaching, I want to get away from the front of the classroom. And as a math teacher I find that I can't help them, if I am always in the front of the classroom.
My Project
Students have really performed better in my classroom knowing I am not in the front of the classroom teaching, that I can move around freely. Being able to walk around the room has really impacted my students learning, for the better. As I said above students are the center of my teaching. I want to be with my students, learning right alongside them. I have found that when I remove myself from the front of the class, I can get more discussion from my students.
My students know that they are also part of the learning process, and when I walk around and show their work up on the board, without having them get in front of their peers (though some still do), there is a new-found confidence for math.
And I really enjoy seeing students become more confident with their math skills.
This tablet will provide me with the tools that will help make the classroom fun. There are many games and activities I can use with this tablet; and with the faster speed of the tablet I will be able to run various problems that enhance the learning. Programs like Kahoot, Geogebra, DESMOS, and more that I wasn't able to find because the old tablet was not up to the task.
This project is a passion of mine because it takes me away from from the front of the room. It will give me a chance to use more programs showing how the world of math can be relevant to each student. And it will provide more to my notes for students, allowing them really retain the information that is presented to them in new and exciting ways.
