My Project
Teaching science isn’t just about formulas and lectures—it’s about discovery, problem-solving, and hands-on learning. My General Science 8 students are an energetic and curious group of learners who thrive when given the opportunity to explore concepts in an interactive way. While traditional classroom instruction has its place, I believe students learn best when they can see, build, and experience science in action.
For this project, I am requesting materials that will allow my students to design and build their own motion tracks—a hands-on approach to understanding the physics of motion.
Rather than just reading about concepts like velocity, acceleration, friction, and momentum, students will get to test them out firsthand by constructing and experimenting with their own tracks.
I feel this project matters, as it brings with it great skills and opportunities for my learners: Instead of memorizing definitions, students will physically engage with the principles of motion, making the concepts more tangible and easier to grasp. Designing tracks requires critical thinking, troubleshooting, and collaboration —skills that go beyond science and prepare students for real-world challenges. Science should be fun! This project will give students a much-needed break from traditional classroom learning, allowing them to be creative while still reinforcing important physics principles.
By supporting this project, you’ll be helping my students turn physics into a hands-on adventure—one where they don’t just learn about motion, they experience it!
