Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My community school is located in the Allapattah area of Miami Dade County. The community serves children who all receive reduced rate or free lunch. This is a low income school that tries to provide the best early start for children.

My class is a Special Education Pre-Kindergarten class that serves 15 students of whom more than 50% are English Language Learners and have ranging disabilities.

The students in this classroom are special because they are my children and I take pride in putting my maximum effort for the advancement of their learning.

I have students who have been in a day care setting and are more prepared for the demands of my classroom, unlike other students who this will be their first school experience. I try to teach them routine so they know what is to be expected of them either when they enter Kindergarten or when they are in my room the next school year. I follow a strict routine that consists of story times, small group times and whole group instruction. I try to make each one feel loved, appreciated and hold them to very high expectations. I believe they can all learn and be great.

My Project

We are requesting paint trays, card stock, space voyage jigsaw puzzle, and a note cube. My students will be able to learn through engaging in art activities that will have them use their imagination to create animals or structures. This art activity using these materials will allow my students to engage and expand on their ideas.

This activity will allow them to bring their ideas to life by making them and then finalizing them with paint, buttons and feathers.

In doing so allowing their ideas to be validated.

The use of the magic dough will also allow my students to reinforce their fine motor skills by pounding and molding the magic dough, buttons, feathers and beads.
