My Students

Can you imagine a home without books? Reading together while kids are growing up sets the foundation for lifelong readers.

Welcome to our school library.

Here we serve prekindergarten through sixth grade in an urban school district. Our students are bright, eager learners who love reading. Sadly, many of our students leave our school and go to homes that do not contain a wealth of reading materials. Because of this, our students depend on materials they can checkout from the school library. In addition to our high poverty school setting, many of our students are English Language Learners which makes reading more challenging. Developing reading skills, and instilling a love for reading opens the door for future success.

My Project

This pack of audio and companion print books will allow our building to start a family literacy bag program. These resources will allow students to check out a kit, listen and read along with great literature at home with their families. These materials have the potential to dramatically increase our students interest in, and ability to read.

Being able to interact with literature in a variety of ways increases reading ability and enjoyment of reading.

By supporting a family literacy bag program, students and their families will be able to read together and improve their reading skills.
