Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 7 and 8-year-old, inner city students. Fifty percent are English Second Language Learners and all of them work hard! We are a family and they are excited to come, learn, and grow. This year, our school goal is to be a model urban school. Each and every day will be spent learning and experiencing new concepts and ideas. Our community is very appreciative of all we do for them and this is one project that must be brought to fruition!

Our inner city school district finds it difficult to compete with surrounding wealthy towns.

Our state is one of the wealthiest in the country; however, our district is also one of the poorest. One hundred percent of our 22,000 students receive free lunch. This is a strong indicator of the economic pressures our families and our students face every day. This year alone we lost social workers, guidance counselors, literacy coaches, and staff. These projects are essential in making up the resources that we are desperately lacking. Thank you in advance for your support!

My Project

Our community is very limited in resources so our students wait all year for our annual family fun day field day! This event is the highlight of the school year and really sets the tone for their whole summer! We anticipate well over 900 in attendance! They do not have the resources to go to amusements parks and family vacations to other sunny states. They surely can walk to the school and enjoy the day with their families. Their parents are allowed to bring their grills and cook out! The students absolutely love the water slide and many do not even have a bathing suit but are allowed to go down the slides with their clothes!

Do not underestimate the power of a water slide and obstacle course as this will motivate students for the next 5 months!

They are so excited to participate and they are fully aware that they must put forth their best academic and behavioral effort every day to gain admission to the end of the year bonanza! This project is not just fun for all. It brings a whole community together to celebrate the lives of students for a whole school year! This is their family vacation! This is their trip to Disney! This is their summer family trip and you can be a major part of that!
