My Students
A new year and a new set of eager learners. I work at a school where the majority of my students are English learners; however, they are not letting their language barrier hold them back! On my campus, many of my students are English learners as well as migrant, transient, or homeless.
My students are constantly working their hardest to not only continue to learn the academics, but to also continue to learn to speak English correctly.
Just like anyone else, my students are trying to find their way in this world and to become well rounded, educated individuals; I am doing everything I can to help them stay inspired, striving for better, believing in themselves, and continuing to learn!
I'm here to teach, and they're eager to learn. I believe learning can still be fun and definitely should be. A student that loves, appreciates, and is enjoying their learning experience, will learn the most!
My Project
At our school, we use Guided Reading and a variety of strategies with our students to help bring up their reading and fluency. Many of our students are language learners and are struggling to not only learn to speak English, but to also read. We hold our students accountable, and they track their progress in class and know their reading levels and what they are working on when they are reading. Many of my lower performing students are in Level C or D, and our second grade classrooms do not have many books they are able to read at that level, and I need your help! It is hard enough to get them to want to read, but if I do not have many options that reach their interest, it is a struggle. Everyone wants choices in what they want to read, and with these materials, I am hoping my students will fall in love with reading and increase in their fluency and comprehension. These sets are wonderful because they are on level and also include fiction and nonfiction texts.
