My Students
My students are incredibly diverse in their talents and interests, as a result they enter my room already literate in a multitude of ways.
Together we stretch our capabilities as readers, writers, thinkers and speakers aiming for growth everyday.
My students have powerful voices and important things to say. I am so grateful to laugh, think and learn with my students about all that they bring into our classroom as well as the worlds through which they travel outside of it.
My Project
When we talk about books, an analogy from another teacher often comes to mind...
we search for windows and mirrors:
windows into the worlds and lives we do not know, don't yet understand, or will never experience, but through which we can gain understanding, empathy, inspiration, insight and a thirst for knowledge, adventure and justice;
mirrors which reflect the world through which we move everyday, the people who surround us and the challenges we face - telling us that we are not alone, that we are loved, that others understand and see us, and that in different ways and in different places there is always joy, comfort and belonging to be found.
With my students in mind, I seek to provide windows and mirrors for every student and to ensure that our classroom library offers bits and pieces of all that they seek from the world around them.
