My Students
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." Unknown. Located in a rural, low income area, our school strives to provide a quality education to all students.
Our students have the drive and passion to use their education as a weapon to change their world. Through long school days, a focus on skills and character, and striving to meet high academic expectations our students are challenged to work hard, be good and above all else, think.
My Project
My first year teaching, I had the privilege of teaching a book club. The young men and women in the book club read a wide array of novels and other literature. However, these students do not always get the access to these books due to lack of resources. I keep a library in my history room, and try to keep it stocked with reading material from every genre.
The students are entranced by the stories that would come alive from the written word, but don't always have stories that speak to their life and culture. Students read for pleasure, necessity, and to escape. Sadly, my library has been read through, and I need to update the books so that my students can continue to read different types of literature.
