My students need the Lakeshore Fairy Tale Problem Solving STEM Kit to foster critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity during our literacy block.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Wow! I cannot believe that I am almost finished with my fourth year of teaching. Time sure does fly by when you are doing something that you love. I teach kindergarten, and I have such an amazing group of superheroes this year! I have been blessed with such smart, caring, and affectionate students.
My students attend a public Title I school where we serve military and non-military students.
At times, my students may not have what they need, but they come to class excited and eager to learn. My superheroes are unique in their own abilities and what they bring to the classroom. They work together as a team, and together they have tackled the obstacles of learning how to read, write, and add and subtract. I am proud of the leaders that have emerged in my classroom.
I strive to create a classroom that is hands-on, engaging, safe, and fun. I strive to give my superheroes every experience that is at my disposal. They are what push me to be the best teacher that I can be! They have truly left an imprint on my heart.
My Project
Kindergarteners need opportunities to create, build, and explore. They need opportunities to fail with purpose, critical think and problem solve. STEM is the perfect opportunity for them to do so. In kindergarten, retell is an extremely important skill that they have to master in order to be successful. When you can combine these both together, you have magic!
The Lakeshore fairytale problem solving STEM kit will be instrumental in giving my superheroes opportunities to retell through STEM!
We have a unit on fairytales that we read aloud during the year. We read such beloved fairytales as "Little Red Riding Hood," "The Gingerbread Man," and "Rapunzel." The skill we will focus on is retell. Through the fairytale STEM kit, students can practice retell while adding a creative component. My superheroes will have to figure out how to get Rapunzel out of the tower, how to get the gingerbread man across the river, and how to save little red riding hood from the big bad wolf.
Studies show that students fair better academically when given opportunities to create, build, and problem solve. I want to provide enriching opportunities that will help my superheroes to be successful thinkers and problem solvers. To my future donors, thank you for taking this journey with me!
