My Students

I teach kindergarten students in a diverse community. Areas surrounding our school were impacted by Hurricane Harvey last year and our campus is now a Title 1 school. Many of my students did not attend pre-k and are in a school setting for the first time. I have many English language learner students in my class as well. My kindergarteners need playful, hands on learning in order to keep them engaged and meet their learning needs. All of my students are eager to learn and excited to be at school each and every day.

My Project

With advances in everyday technology, student are using technology at earlier ages than ever before. Unfortunately, students are entering school without necessary literacy and story telling skills as a result of technology replacing books and story time. Kids are also coming to school with less creativity and building experiences as well. The Fairy Tale steam kit would give my students the practice they need with retelling classic stories using puppets and props. The stem activity sets will allow them to use problem solving skills to build the activity related to the stories. All of these activities also foster working together with others in a group which is another necessary skill in kindergarten. These materials will boost literacy, critical thinking, oral language and problem solving skills in a meaningful way for my young students.
