My 25 students are capable of amazing things! Though each student comes in with a different background and various experiences, all students are taught the idea of having a growth mindset. Our brain is powerful; and through practice, we can achieve more. We can continue to improve at tasks that are initially difficult for us. This takes hard work and a positive attitude. Each day, I strive to provide choice in their academic endeavors to help with growth.
Offering students creative choices can allow them to unlock their full potential.
When students are able to choose an aspect of assigned classroom tasks (where to work, what to write about, how to develop ideas, etc), they must take ownership of their learning. Students who take ownership of their learning are more likely to retain and apply their newfound knowledge and skills. I believe students are also able to find success when teachers learn their interests and cater instruction to their specific passions.
My Project
I Survived, Magic Tree House Fact Tracker and Who Was... series books will motivate my students to learn more about historical events and people as we explore the genre of nonfiction texts. These resources will become a part of our classroom library where students choose materials for independent reading.
By providing these on-level, high-interest books for my learners, students will be able to gather knowledge and become experts on various events and people.
These books will inspire students to be fact seekers and knowledge collectors. Students will be able to celebrate their learning by sharing their newfound information with others.
