My Students

Family: "What did you do in school today?" Child: "Nothing!" Family: "Let's check your class Facebook page and see what pictures and status updates your teacher posted today!" Child: "Well, we explored numbers, letters, and even went on a field trip!" Family: "I knew you would change your mind"

I am a Kindergarten teacher and I have worked at the same school in North Carolina for 5 years.

I've had the chance to create many new and long lasting relationships with my families and children. Last year I had the unique opportunity to use Facebook as a tool in my classroom. Having this awesome technology allowed my families to see all of the awesome things their children were doing on a daily basis all the way up to DAY 180! My families are very involved in their children's educations and absolutely loved the fact that they could follow their child’s academic progress in school. My children have become very well-versed in our Facebook page and the benefits it brings to our class. They often ask if they can use my camera to take pictures of their peers. After exploring DonorsChoose as a class, we decided having these cameras would allow more students to become involved in taking the pictures. Please help us fund these cameras so we can continue to welcome you in our class everyday!

My Project

Calendar: Post any important upcoming assignments, tests, due dates, and field trips. Files: Upload important files and assignments. Upload Pictures Of Daily Activities: Upload pictures of the students on a daily basis participating in classroom activities. Links: Easily post links to educational websites that you may use at home with your children. Participate in a summer activities: This can be helpful to post any activities, summer camps, or daycares that may be available over the summer. I will also post activities that you may work on with your children with reading, math or writing. Poll our class or parents: Use polls as an interactive teaching tool for parents and teachers to get input on what their children may need, or it can even help us to get to know one another. Communication Tool: I will use Facebook as a tool to communicate with current parents and students in my classroom and students in the future, so they can follow their teacher as they further their education.

2010-2011 Parent: I really hope you ALL take advantage of our class Facebook page.

It really helped me stay informed, and I can look at the page and automatically see what Ms. M. taught that day, even when my child said he didn't do anything. Review of new content within the first 24 hours helps to imprint it on their brain. I believe the students will take ownership of the work they produce knowing that it can be seen by their parents and discussed immediately!
