Fabulous Fluency Friends

Help me give my students "Fluency Friends" supplies. 4th and 5th grade students will be paired with 1st and 2nd graders to help build and practice fluency!

My Project

Research has shown that repeated readings is an instructional strategy that aids in helping students increase decoding automaticity skills. Fluency means reading words like we speak with accuracy, at a good rate and with good intonation.

"Fluency Friends" is an instructional strategy to help build fluency with our 1st and 2nd grade struggling readers.

4th and 5th grade student leaders will be paired with a 1st or 2nd grader. They will use a decodable passage and the materials in their "Fluency Friends" bucket to practice fluent reading with their partner.

The materials in their buckets will help make this a fun and engaging experience for both the 4th or 5th grade leaders and their younger student.
