My Students
My students are a group of energetic first graders who come to school each day eager to learn. They attend a high poverty, Title I school in rural Georgia and over 85% of my children live in poverty. Our elementary school is a low-income, rural school that has children that are homeless.
Regardless of our socioeconomic status, these students are young, ambitious, and smart.
Despite their hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn as much as they can so they can be successful. I teach an amazing group of first graders who come to school each day with smiles on their faces.
My Project
My students need books to be successful this year. We are a Title I, low income school with high expectations for reading and writing. To meet these goals, students must be reading and writing about books that interest them. Most of my students do not have books at home to read, so I use my classroom library like a public library. Students can check out books and return them.
My students will be using these books daily in the classroom.
The books that I ordered will be used in my reading groups. I meet with these groups multiple times a week to improve phonics, reading, and comprehension. These amazing books will catch their attention and open the doors to lifelong reading. My children will have more choices of reading materials with the addition of these books that we need in our classroom.
