My students love to read! Alone, in pairs, snuggled in a cozy chair, they are spellbound when reading. This year, I am moving up to second grade, and I need new books to match my super seven-year-old readers!
My students are energetic, loving, curious, and hard-working.
They love to read! Funny books are always a favorite. In first grade, they loved Mo Willems's hilarious series books, starring "Pigeon." This year, I'd like to get them hooked on some new books.
Our school, nestled in the heart of our city, celebrates a diverse student body. One thing that stands out in our school is our strong sense of community. We use the Responsive Classroom model, and we teach our students that a positive community "CARES" (cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy, and self-control).
My Project
First and foremost, my students will love reading these books! But also, by donating books to our classroom, you also donate teachers to our classroom. These books will act as mentor authors to my young writers. Who better to teach rhythm and rhyme than famed poet, Jack Prelutsky? When we learn how to write with voice, we can turn to Maurice Sendak to offer rich examples.
The most satisfying sight in a teacher's world is watching a student get lost in a book.
They don't hear the noise around them, they don't notice distractions, because they are transported to another world. By donating high-interest fiction books to our class, you will be fostering a love of learning that will last a lifetime!
