Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Children are so excited by a clean, white sheet of paper placed before them during art class, but they are even more excited when that paper is colorful, patterned, full of glitter, or iridescent!
My students live in a high poverty area, and resources are limited.
Our school is a Title 1 school, and most students receive free or reduced lunch. A majority of the children are classified as ESL (English as a Second Language). They are very creative, and can't wait for art class each week!
My Project
My students need exciting and vibrant colored origami, nature print, construction and tissue papers for their art projects. These materials can be used for so many different projects. The students can create collages, prints, paper sculptures, and so much more. Students in the first grade will create jellyfish sculptures. The fourth grade will create large origami cranes. The nature print paper will be used for a lesson in photography for fifth grade students. And this is just the tip of the iceberg! Every student in the school will use these supplies.
Students throughout the entire school will use these materials.
With an art budget that is less than a dollar per student for the school year, I usually can't provide the special materials that are so exciting to the children. These supplies will spark their creativity, and make art class an experience they will never forget!
