My students need a library makeover. My students read everyday and love to find a good book but our classroom library could use a makeover. And who doesn't love to pick up a new book?
Our K-8 school is located in the heart of South Brooklyn. My 8th graders come from many different backgrounds and experiences. Many were not born in this country and for them, English is not their native language. As a result, they struggle with the vast text content that they encounter throughout the day both in reading and writing and other subjects as well.To help them and the rest of the students by providing rigorous academics through working with Teacher's College, fantastic teachers and staff and a safe learning environment. We teach character development through Leader in Me and the 7 habits as well as offer arts, music and after-school clubs to meet the needs of our students. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school, college and beyond.
My Project
To inspire the love of reading, we need good books! Our 8th grade ELA classroom library is out of date and does not contain all the titles of classic literature that can help inspire a lifetime of love for reading. We read everyday in class and the classroom library can use some new titles. We usually read in book clubs where groups of 4 or 5 students read and discuss the same stories. This helps them comprehend the text and lets them discuss and share their ideas together. This helps them in their writing as well. So with your help, our classroom library can get a makeover.
