I currently teach third grade at a Title I school. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch every school day. Some students will also receive food bags to take home for the weekend to help out their families. A majority of the population in our school are economically disadvantaged, but that does not hinder their passion and eagerness for learning.
I believe that all students are able to reach success, given the right amount of support and love.
My students are a diverse group coming from different ethnic and religious backgrounds. They are also a diverse group of learners that need a variety of ways to comprehend their learning. My goal is to give these amazing third graders the opportunity to soar this year with anything and everything they need to succeed. I am excited for this opportunity. I know with your support we can give these third grades the chance to shine.
My Project
My students need additional practice with nonfiction texts that contain appropriate content and are at their reading level. Scholastic News Readers will provide them with all the practice they need to identify text features, practice finding the main idea and details, and increase their ability to comprehend what they have read. These Scholastic News Readers will be used during their independent reading time or in literacy stations throughout the year to provide the practice my students need with reading nonfiction leveled texts.
This extra exposure to nonfiction text will expand my students’ vocabularies as well as sharpen their writing skills as they view the writing styles of different nonfiction authors.
