Help me give my students the ability to produce an online / print school newspaper and on-air news program. This is a brand-new class offered which teaches students life skills and real-world applications.
Within this program students will learn real-world writing, interview and public speaking, active listening, website design, print journalism techniques, sales, narrative and reporting style of writing and much more. The texts, video cameras, audio equipment, and lights will help the students acquire these skills which will prepare them for their next step after high school. Specifically, the video cameras, lights, audio recorders, adobe, and editing textbooks will enable the students to record our school's weekly announcements and broadcast them for the student body. This will give them real-life experience in not only broadcast journalism, but in public speaking, writing for a specific audience, editing, revising, videography, and interview skills. The dry erase calendars and other texts will allow them to create and maintain deadlines which is important in life after high school. The other resources will help them write newspaper articles and publish them online and in print.
High School Journalism is important because it allows students to have a voice in their community; it serves as a platform for students to express their opinions and concerns and helps in shaping the campus environment as well as each individual student.
High school journalism provides hands-on career preparation for student journalists, equipping them with the necessary skills for the workplace. Journalism courses expose students to various subjects, from politics and culture to science and business. They get to explore diverse topics and gain a broader understanding of the world around them. In the world of "fake news" this program will help student navigate social media and make informed decisions.
