This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The demands on my students continue to change as the world changes. My students are expected to learn the basics in reading, writing and arithmetic, but also are challenged to embrace the hurdles of the world around them.
I teach at a high-need, urban school in North Carolina where my children come not only for learning, but also with a love of curiosity.
They have many questions about the world around them, but the nightly news and newspapers are often too difficult for their reading levels. With limited reading materials and resources at home, my students rely on our classroom resources. Everyday I challenge my students to make connections to world and community events. However, since they struggle with understanding world events, they are missing valuable connections that will accelerate their learning, motivation, and engagement.
My Project
Our children are the future leaders of the world. They need to stay focused and engaged to be successful readers. Weekly Reader and Science Spin are great resources that will not only keep them interested in the articles, but also expose them to real world news and issues of today.
Please help me keep these young minds engaged and thinking while they are developing stronger reading skills, problem solving strategies, and learning to be adaptable to the changing world around them.
The Weekly Reader and Science Spin series will be great resource tools in the classroom for our future leaders!
