My Students

"I teach kindergarten in a very low income area. Over 90% of my students receive free or reduced lunches. Many of my students live with grandparents, great-grandparents, or extended family members. I do not have enough funds to provide the necessary materials for my students.

I am required to teach social studies; however, I do not have a social studies curriculum.

I have requested this material from my school as well as my PTO, however, there are not enough funds to purchase them. I want my students to become knowledgeable of the world around them and to become aware of things that are happening throughout our country as well as our world.

My Project

I am requesting 24 copies of Time for Kids magazine for my kindergarten students as well as a preschool globe. I was blessed by a donor last year that purchased Time Readers for my students this year and they LOVED them. It allowed them the opportunity to learn about real world events that were happening right now all around us. It taught them many different social studies and reading skills, as well as math skills that they needed in order to be successful. This year I am asking for a preschool globe to go along with our Time Readers. Often times this year my students had many questions about where the events were taking place and I had a hard time being able to provide the necessary materials to answer their questions. This globe will help me to answer the many questions that my students ask.

Wow!!

To think that many of my students never even get the opportunity to leave the little town that we live in. These Time Readers allow them the opportunity to adventure to many different places within our country as well as many other countries without ever leaving the little town we live in. How Exciting!! How Adventurous!!
