My students need become aware of the world around them. They need to develop an understanding of global issues in an age appropriate format. Weekly Readers allow students to do just that. Weekly Readers are current event magazines designed for the young reader. It allows them to develop vocabulary and comprehension while learning of real world events that impact their lives. Help us the read all about it through the gift of Weekly Readers and Time for Kids.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

We are a high poverty school located in North Carolina. The students do not know much about the world around them because their world only extends to the boundaries of their neighborhood.

Our students come to us each year behind in reading and lacking information about the world around them. They need authentic tools to not only improve their reading, but provide them with a greater understanding of the world around them.

Weekly Readers and Times for Kids are two ways we can bring the world to them. Though the use of these magazines, the student will be able to learn more about the world beyond the neighborhood borders while at the same time increasing their reading comprehension and vocabulary skills.

By supporting this project, you can make a difference to an entire first grade at my school. You will help the student read more and connect to world to themselves in a meaningful way.
