Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My name is Keisha Lewis and I am running an extended school program with approximately 250 students this summer for students diagnosed with various disabilities in grades kindergarten through 6th. Our goal is to continue the academic, behavioral, and life skills training through the summer months. The extended school year program for students with disabilities is not just about academic enrichment—it's about providing essential support, maintaining progress, and fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. Our students love work and projects that are tactile. Tactile projects offer a range of benefits for autistic and special needs students, including sensory stimulation, hands-on engagement, concrete learning experiences, emotional regulation, and social interaction, making them highly appealing and beneficial additions to classroom activities. Play-doh, crayons, board games and shaving cream provide a comforting and enjoyable sensory experience, helping them regulate their sensory input and feel more grounded.
