Our team has grown and we now have students with multiple levels of experience. The second kit has helped us to meet the needs of both the beginning students and experienced students. \r\n\r\nThis spring in the off season new members joined and having the second starter bot kit was essential. This allowed our experienced members to continue working on our original design robot while new members were able to acquire basic building and coding skills by following the instructions. As a coach this also taught me a lot about the learning process and how to coach both groups at once. I was able to hone in on some of those basic skills and it will allow me to create a badge system for another new group of students in the Fall.\r\n\r\nI want to thank you for investing in the future of the robotics program at our school. The First Tech Challenge reveals a new game each year and that necessitates creating a new robot each season. We can use our two kits (both purchased thanks to the generosity of 3M) to build new robots and compete in the First Tech Challenge in the proceeding years. This year thirty eight students have attended robotics club sessions from all grade levels. We have both girls and boys. Most of the students are from underrepresented groups in engineering and sciences. We now have a core group of students who bonded through designing and building robots and I have no doubt that most of this core group will continue in the club in the following years. It has always been my intention to grow this group of students and continue to expand the program. We may even have two squads of students at competitions next year. Your generosity has been critical for helping us to continue growing.","fullyFundedDate":1773676906560,"projectUrl":"project/the-fleet-is-expanding-we-need-a-2nd-r/10143928/","projectTitle":"The Fleet Is Expanding! Rather than practicing these concepts only through worksheets, students are applying them in a real-world setting by stocking products, taking inventory, managing money, tracking sales, and making decisions about which items to reorder. This authentic experience helps students understand how math, organization, communication, and problem-solving are used in everyday work environments.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for our students is that they are responsible for running the business themselves. They take great pride in seeing customers purchase the products they have stocked and managed. The vending machine has transformed learning into something tangible and meaningful. Students are motivated to track sales, count profits, and make business decisions because they can immediately see the results of their efforts.\r\n\r\nFor many of our students with disabilities, confidence and independence are just as important as academic skills. Several students who are often hesitant to participate in traditional classroom activities have eagerly taken ownership of vending machine responsibilities. They are building workplace habits, practicing teamwork, and developing skills that will support future employment and community participation.
