My students need headphones to use at the computer station, a crayon sharpener to help us utilize the crayons completely, a surge protector and an extension cord to plug in our projector.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in the beautiful city of Victoria in Texas. We have a diverse population of students who mainly come from the neighborhood where our school is located and new students who were displaced due to the hurricane.
These students come from diverse families and include English language learners and students with special needs.
As a Title I school, we generally serve most students a free breakfast.
Our school district was hit by Hurricane Harvey, and, as a community, we are still trying to recover. This is a massive struggle for our families who are staying with other families or in accommodated housing. The majority of our students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and this is hurting them get back on their feet. Our students also have been having a difficult time adjusting to concentrating in class because they are worried about very adult issues at home.
We would love for every student to come to school wanting to learn and ready to learn and fall in love with learning, but sometimes we have to help them fall in love with learning like teachers fell in love with teaching!
My Project
Our classroom is now a great mix of electronic and old-school friendly learning. We use crayons daily during almost every assignment or activity, so a new crayon sharper would help tremendously!
We have great flexible seating options in the room, but we are lacking some fundamentals to help the classroom function correctly.
We JUST received a big and beautiful classroom carpet, but we have old school projectors that need to be plugged in. This is where we are having an issue.
The cords must be plugged in for the projector to work because it is not mounted, so we have to run cords under the carpet. My current cord is not long enough to reach the wall, so I am requesting a longer extension cord.
We have extreme weather most of the year with hurricanes, flooding, and electrical outages, so a surge protector will help guarantee our devices will work well for us.
We have some awesome computers in the classroom but we do not have enough working headphones or a headphone splitter to organize them. Right now we have iPads and computers but have to pick if we have sound working for one set or the other. I would love to have more students on the computer and actively engaged during stations with the help of more headphones. We have so much fun using online educational programs, and I would love my kids to be able to go on these programs daily!
