My Students

My students are young, eager learners ready to become the leaders of tomorrow. They come from a rural area that consists of a mix between low-income housing and family farms. They live in an old mill town with few opportunities, other than school, for engaging learning activities.

For many, the time they spend in our classroom is the most exciting and engaging part of their day.

I often hear my students exclaim, "I love school!" and nothing could make me happier! This is why we need your help to make our classroom full of as many opportunities to practice our academic and social skills as possible!

My Project

My students are working to become better readers and writers everyday. With a new document camera, my students will be able to see the books we are reading projected onto our whiteboard where they will be able to not only see better, but they will also be able to mark/highlight on the image that is displayed which will further their comprehension/understanding of the text without damaging the book. During our writing time the camera will be used to display student work for the whole class to see, appreciate, and critique.

With the Whisperphones, students will be able to work on their reading fluency by practicing their reading in a way that allows them to block out other sounds and only hear themselves.

Both of these tools together are going to take our reading and writing above and beyond!
