This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come to school each day, ready to learn, and to explore the world around them. They are inquisitive, full of energy, and aren't afraid to take risks. Each has their own unique learning style and thrive with opportunities for creativity, teamwork, and collaboration. Unfortunately, since distance learning began, these opportunities to be creative and explore the world around them have been taken away. Their daily routines have been stripped from them, leaving them feeling worried and anxious. As their teacher, it is my responsibility to find ways to minimize their worries during their time with me. I make it a point to continue to nurture and develop their learning styles with the use of creative art techniques to help keep their inventive and creative minds engaged!
My Project
One of the things my students enjoy most about our daily classes on Zoom are the various art lessons I present. This is the one activity they ask to do daily. During this time, my students get the opportunity to be creative, express themselves, and get their thoughts off of some of the harsh realities their families are experiencing due to this tragic pandemic. While the kids are engaged in producing artwork, I see them smiling, relaxed, and enjoying their time. Unfortunately the one thing that stands out to me is the lack of art supplies they have at home. Some do not have white printing paper to draw on. Others only have crayons to add color to their art. At times, I see some using lined composition paper or the back of an old bill to complete their artwork. The lack of basic art supplies prevent them from really developing their full creative potential.
