My students are from a rural community with many local farms. There are only three schools in the community, and students usually go through all three schools. This creates a very lovely community, family feel. I am able to see former and current students at various functions and remain a part of their lives. I love when I am able to teach siblings from one family! It is so special to develop that relationship with families.
Students in my town love to be outside, and we have two large playgrounds for them to use at recess.
Students love to play in the snow on winter days. They enjoy playing soccer and football on the field in the fall and spring. Many students and parents planted gardens in the front of our building which we observe and enjoy throughout the year. The environment and school is warm and inviting. I have taught in this town for seventeen years and would not change a thing!
My Project
My students love to learn about weather....what causes different weather patterns, the difference between climate versus weather, and severe storms, graphing weather patterns, and tools to measure rain, wind speed, etc. They will use these materials to explore in a hands-on manner.
Students can collect rain and measure it.
Then, we can graph the data. Students will be able to record temperature changes and make predictions based on weather patterns. They will also make tools that can be used to discover wind direction such as wind vanes.
Lastly, they can use their knowledge to explore the water cycle and create experiments to observe and predict. Using these meteorological tools will help my students feel like scientists and encourage them to observe, question, and predict.
