Your donation has brought new life—and beautiful new sounds—to our music classroom.\r\n\r\nMallet instruments are an important part of our students' musical learning. They give students the opportunity to create music together, practice musical skills, listen to one another, and experience the joy of making music as an ensemble. Unfortunately, many of our old instruments had been used for 25–30 years. They no longer played in tune or produced the clear, beautiful ringing sound that these instruments should have.\r\n\r\nOur new xylophones have made an amazing difference! The instruments sound absolutely beautiful, and the students were so excited when they saw them for the first time. They were especially amazed when I told them that people had donated their own money to help purchase these instruments for our music classroom. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to see firsthand how generous people in our community can be and how others believe in the importance of music education.\r\n\r\nI am especially excited to feature these new instruments in our fourth grade performance of Where the Wild Things Are this March. Our students will be able to use them to help bring the story to life through music, and I know they will be proud of the sounds they create together.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students and giving them instruments that will inspire creativity, collaboration, and a lifelong love of making music. Once a week, students in each grade level get a chance to come to \"Open STEM Lab\" where they have choice in what to create, build, or engineer. The Chompsaw has truly changed how students interact with materials. Previously, working with cardboard could be quite frustrating as it is difficult for students to cut safely and independently. The Chompsaw has completely changed this. Now my \"Cardboard Center\" is bustling with students. I've had students build houses for their stuffies, signs for their bedroom, mazes, vehicles, and all other contraptions. Once they get a brief lesson on how to use the Chompsaw, they are able to be independent. Now the most frustrating part is waiting for their turn with the Chompsaw. I am currently teaching students different ways of connecting and attaching cardboard pieces together so their skills can grow. I'm so happy with how this saw has supported students ability to create and build! My students and I love our new boards. We have been using them almost every day for math work, spelling, and grammar lessons. The students are so excited that the boards are easy to read and clean compared to the old ones they started the year with. Because they are magnetic, students can use them with letter tiles for word work practice very easily. Students are no longer dealing with lost learning tools!
