Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are all second and third graders in a neighborhood that struggles economically. About one hundred percent of our qualify for free lunches and breakfast. That, however, does not diminish their excitement for learning, especially if you incorporate things they like doing.

They are smart and very capable students with a true love of learning through real experiences.

The economic challenges do, however, have an impact on what they have available to help them learn. These are changing times and we have to constantly look for ways to not only keep students engaged, but also build their skills to prepare for potential future careers. We know that the future will require critical thinking and problem-solving skills, but it also requires a stronger background and understanding of science and technology. My students love hands-on learning.

My Project

We have an awesome Science Lab. Science Labs, and hands on learning requires a lot of stuff. Much of these supplies are consumables. Our Science lab also has two Gecko tanks in it and they need heat. They at cold blooded animals and need heat to stay warm. We only have one solar system model left and need more so every table group can look and them up close and learn about our solar system.

The pipe cleaners have all kinds of science makerspace applications.

Creating models of different things. we need the trees to make mock ups of neighborhoods and parks/ ecosystems to student the affects of weathering, erosion, storms and other project based learning options. Project based learning is extremely fun. Do you want to come learn science with us?
