My Students

My students are amazing artists who love to learn how to draw and enjoy the fully immersive environment we create in our Art room. My students love getting up, moving around the classroom, and bringing the artwork we’re studying that day to life. Through movement and theatre my students explore their artistic inspiration and fully engulf themselves in what they see on the screen. For example, the students flesh out the sounds, smells and temperature they see in a Van Gogh painting. Once exploration is complete, we then begin creating art using the materials we have to invoke what was experienced in our warm-up. Thesestudents are bright, funny, loving children who truly deserve to explore with good quality materials that realize where their imagination takes them.

My Project

My students will be completing an art project inspired by the lush rain forests of Panama. Each grade level will be learning about a particular animal that lives in the different parts of the rain forest. We will explore the rain forest habitats through theater. Students will fully immerse themselves in the humid jungle, from the emergent layer all the way down to the forest floor. We will be creating structured toucans out of paper plates, drawing a detailed close-up of the eye of a Jaguar, and creating a collaged fish with colorful radiant lines and shapes! I will be adding elements of art by teaching my students about the vibrant hand made textiles called Molas, created by the Kuna people of Panama. When completed, all of the artwork will be displayed in the order of the four layers of the rain forest. at the completion of the project students will be able to discuss the 4 layers of the rain forest, have extensive knowledge of their animal & their habitat, and know facts about Panama.
