As my Financial Algebra students journey through the complex world of finance, I strive to provide them with opportunities to engage authentically with the curriculum. Our class covers topics such as savings, investment, taxes, loans, credit, entrepreneurship, and budgeting through a mathematical lens. The students investigate both how math motivates these concepts and how they will use math practically in their everyday personal financial decisions.
Hands-on project-based learning assignments support students in exploring financial math in a way that is personal to them.
From designing their apartment floor plan on a budget and modeling the depreciation of their dream car to planning their future career and calculating the taxes that will be withheld from their first paycheck -- the students are able to bring their own personal interests, goals, and understanding to their learning. The supplies in this project allow students to complete the projects that we will be doing in-class. They will have everything they need to be successful, creative mathematicians in Financial Algebra!
