My Students

Have you ever been so engaged in a book that you felt like you had, in fact, entered into another world? That's the type of reading material that I want to supply for my students - quality stories that spark their imagination and cultivate their curiosity.

There are a wide-range of academic abilities and background experiences.

Some students have had much less exposure to quality literature than their peers. All of my students are talented young people with a real desire to learn! As part of an arts-focused school, my students are hungry for great works like this to spark their imagination.

My Project

The text copies of the novel Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH and single DVD copy of The Secret of NIMH will be used in a series of shared reading lessons where we explore perspectives and language use. By sharing the same text, the students will be able to engage with each other in meaningful literary discussions. The discussions will focus on elements of literary works such as figurative language and dialog as well as questions of social justice. Additionally, we will be using some of the imagery in this text to create works of visual art.

Not all of my students have books at home, and their lack of exposure to well-written, engaging materials puts them at a disadvantage.

With a book in every students' hands, they will be able to better examine and engage in the text.
