My Students

My classroom at the middle school where I teach is a community of learners. We are a family that gets together every day to learn more about how to be dynamic readers and writers and also how to be a part of a school community. The students at this middle school represent a wide spectrum of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. My students are excited to learn new material and look forward to being engaged in their learning.

Our classroom encompasses excitement for learning by offering a variety of flexible seating options.

We enjoy getting up and moving to a spot that suits our needs for each project. Keeping our brains alert and attentive is also important, so we enjoy a little dancing and singing to wake up all parts of our bodies!

My Project

My students will engage in a 7-8 week project using the book, I am Malala, the young reader's edition. During this project, students will be exposed to the story of Malala Yousafzai and her passionate, dangerous, and life-changing journey.

As students learn more about Malala's story, they will learn about memoir writing and write their own memoir after reading Malala's story.

Learning more about diverse cultures and experiences can create understanding about others and their point of view and values as well as reveal universal values and shared experiences. Students will gain a deeper understanding of what other young people experience in their cultures and communities.
