This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.” - David Warlick
My school is very limited in the amount of technology it is able to provide.
Because of this, my students lack the necessary skills to do basic digital learning and exploring. Most cannot type, navigate a website for relevant information, or determine if a site is even credible.
My school is in the center of a community of low-income families and second-language learners. Many of my students face extraordinary challenges and they come to school each day looking for consistency, structure, and a caring learning community. Most of my students come to me with little knowledge of their world outside their neighborhood, however they are eager to learn and soak up information with enthusiasm. They're motivated to learn and I am motivated to find new ways to enrich their education.
My Project
Chromebooks will allow my students to explore the world in a way that is new, relevant, and up to date. This resource will allow students to see places around the world through virtual tours and interactive maps. It will allow students to understand how our world works and how we got to where we are by researching both the past and the present. They will help build my students' confidence as they will have more opportunities to navigate educational resources and begin to find relevant information that can be used in reports, speeches, and projects.
The computers in this project will increase student learning and motivation.
Students will not only be able to use the Chromebooks to research, they can then work on typing skills and multi-media projects. My students frequently demonstrate their learning through brochures, collages, and posters where they illustrate features and symbols of a culture, and then describe or analyze them. This project will not only help my students navigate the world of technology, but it will “Empower Students through Art” by allowing them to find accurate resources to illustrate, therefore adding detail and life to their projects. This project will bring history, writing, and art together all through technology!
technology is vital to being able to expand their surface knowledge and lets them dig deeper into topics that our social studies books just touch on. Most importantly, they will help bring my students into the digital age of learning, helping them to acquire skills required of them in today's modern world.
