Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students arrive to school every day ready to learn, eager for positive learning experiences. Many students are sent to school on their own without even hearing a kind word until they enter our building. For most, the first adult they greet in the morning with a welcoming smile is their teacher. A lot of our students participate in community outreach programs that assist with Backpack Meals for the weekend, and assisting with teaching about daily social skills and study habits. Most students have rarely crossed paths with successful professionals that reflect their own cultural backgrounds. For many the only professionals they know are their teachers. Many are first-generation students striving for a better life. They are eager to learn English and achieve more than their parents ever could by fulfilling the hopes of an American Dream. Determined to make a success story out of next to nothing they arrive with eager minds ready to learn. As members of a coastal community our students are also aware of the importance of preserving the environment and protecting Earth from global environmental harms. Our students are "Una Ola de Exitos" waiting to make a difference.
My Project
STEM projects help students close academic gaps, increase their ability to participate in all aspects of education, as well as truly offering hands-on experience with understanding key topics in both math and science. The funding of this Cricut Explore Air and stylus pens will allow students to explore technology using computer aided design while also creating activities that furthers the science and math aspects of the project. Stylus pens will help students work collaboratively online using OneNote to show their thinking both individually and while working in groups to create and design 3D projects reinforcing learning math and science concepts. Students designs for concept posters reviewing key math concepts such as calculating area and volume of 3D shapes, graphing on coordinate plane to locate objects and relate it GPS locating devices, designing and testing out various helicopter designs, as well as creating roller coaster theme parks are just a few examples of how this project would help students bring their STEM projects to life. This style of new learning calls for Stylus pens and the Cricut Explore Air to help students show their work by converting written work to typed text and turning drawings into 3D designs for projects. Class sets of stylus pens will go a long way at school and home. Touchscreens help students submit their work using draw tool to show their work.
The Cricut Explore Air and stylus pens will help students gain and showcase valuable skills to create and design content during class and during after school programs highlighting their dual language creativity and design abilities.
Stylus pens and the Cricut Explore Air are the new golden classroom tool that will help students learn!
