My Students
I teach in an urban district to students who participate in a free breakfast and lunch program. Many of my students come from single-parent homes and have a difficult time just bringing in school supplies. Many of these students have to help take care of their siblings both before and after school while their parent is working or attending school.
My students are from a variety of backgrounds and have various learning styles.
My classroom is made up of both regular and special education students. They often come into school eager to learn and love to use technology.
Many of my students read below grade level. They would benefit from a variety of classroom resources to help increase their success in school. I want my students to be informed citizens and be able to have the use of technology in the classroom on a daily basis. I want my students to have technology experiences that help foster 21st-century critical thinkers.
My Project
Our district purchased new curriculum this year and everything was digital which is fantastic but my students wanted to touch and turn pages of books throughout the year. The first novel that we read was Love that Dog by Sharon Creech. This book exposes my students to poetry. They enjoyed reading along with their peers and me and learning about writing poems.
I would like my students to read this novel, Love That Dog, by Sharon Creech in print form the next time we read it in the Fall.
Learning about poetry through the turning of pages will enhance my students fine motor skills along with reading comprehension. It will also give them a break from screen time during this pandemic.
