My students need these creative tools to help be more focused for the academic day. Starting mornings with time to build with STEM materials and using coding robots they started their day in a positive way.
My students come from a small community, a country setting, migrant families, and some totally Spanish speaking households. They range in their abilities to speak English, and they have a variety of extracurricular interests from soccer, baseball and football, to Bible clubs, Scouting and singing. They love to eat, talk with friends and learn fun facts about many different things.
My students have a passion for their school, a growth mind set and are trying to live the vision of our school which is "To be one community inspiring all learners to transform tomorrow." Fourth grade is a year of excitement and change, and I sincerely hope that you will choose to be a part of it!
When students walk into my classroom and we all work together I feel all things are possible and development is limitless while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives but, I can certainly place them all in an environment where they can feel as equals in managing their skills, experiences, and involvement during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I hope to inspire each and everyone.
My Project
I would love to give my students time, STEM and Coding activities in the morning where they could decide what they want to do and what they want use for tools to inspire them. Whether it be the Gloue magnet building blocks, Learning Resources Code and Go Robot Mouse, Learning Resources Botley the Coding Robot Activity Set, or even Gravity Maze Marble Run Logic Game and STEM Toy. I also realize many students do not start their day off in a positive and/or ready to work way. But with these coding activities, brain flakes or Lego's I could allow my students 10-20 minutes to explore, collaborate, and be creative first thing in the morning. They will be getting ready for the day and will connect with friends all the while being inspired and inspiring others.
During this exploration time my students can create and build with STEM materials like brain flake, straw constructors or code with robots like Code and Go, or Botley the coding robot or even read as other create.
It will be up to them during this time.
My students can work alone or with a classmate or two. There are many ways to implement and use these materials in a collaborative and stimulating way. The biggest part is that my students get some time to create, collaborate, and have fun with classmates and ME.
