Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Like any teacher, there are so many things I love about my students! They all have different personalities that mesh so well together; I love that they all love each other. We love to learn new things, share our learning with others, and most of all we enjoy hands-on activities, dance breaks and class cheers!

Students are between 5 and 8 years old and strive to learn with hard work and perseverance.

There are 24 students in our class with so much enthusiasm, which is a breath of fresh air especially after being set back by COVID.

My Project

For this project, my goal is to give students less time on computers during "down time" or one on one time and instead allow them to engage in activities that while emphasize critical thinking. Activities for purchase include magna-tiles, paper, crayons, dominos, and giant Jenga. The goal of using these game-like activities is to support abstract thinking, social skills and team work. I am hoping to have this project fully funded because research shows that using games in teaching can help increase student participation, foster social and emotional learning, and motivate students to take risks.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
