My students need 1 electric pencil sharpener, 4 art painters, 1 set of paintbrushes, 2 sets of watercolors, 2 painting kits, 1 set of Read-Along stories, 1 set of paint, and 1 set of sponges.
Do you remember having to borrow art supplies from other classes? Do you remember asking for 20 pencils and receiving 10? That is just a sample of what my students are subjected to.
My second grade students live in an inner city metropolitan area.
My students are from very low income families. Most of them are being raised by a grandparent, foster or single parent. They go to a Title 1 school. Statistics show that students from this type of background usually end up dropping out of school entirely or in the penal system.
My Project
I have requested 1 electric pencil sharpener, 4 art painters, 1 set of paintbrushes, 2 sets of watercolors, 2 painting kits, 1 set of Read-Along stories, 1 set of paint, and 1 set of sponges. Most of my students are visual learners. My students love to draw pictures. They love to express themselves in art. The art supplies will allow them to be creative expressing themselves through art. The multicultural stories can be used as a tool with their art projects and can be integrated in the core subjects that are taught. Working with the supplies will help them learn to be creative. I have gone through 4 manual pencil sharpeners this year and it is frustrating for both the students and myself.
This project is very important to me.
One of my goals is to keep my students from being a statistic of dropping out of school or entering into the penal system. This donation will allow me to use art as a tool in the classroom to help make learning a fun experience and allow them to be motivated to want to learn. I am requesting these items to help me accomplish this goal.
