Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students participating in Experience DC are excited to learn more about what we have been studying in class. The standards in our unit on the US Constitution have been the lowest performance standards for the past five years. These standards are the target standards for our district and school level Social Studies Lesson Plan.

Many of my students are from low-income families so they have only been able to make small payments towards their child's account.

Two of the students registered for this trip are homeless. We have been fundraising to provide financial assistance for students from low income families and homeless students. However, we are still in need of assistance.

My Project

This project was established to provide an opportunity for students travel to DC and experience what we have been discussing in class. The foundation of American government is so abstract to my students. The goal for this trip is to enhance classroom performance by changing the idea of Washington DC and all that it represents into something concrete. Students will have a chance to go to the buildings where the different branches of government conduct their business. They will also see historical documents and buildings related to American government. They will keep a journal with pictures and writing assignments as their evidence of learning. I am not only looking to enhance their classroom performance in my class, but I believe this trip will help them in their high school History courses, provide them with knowledge that is harder gain in a classroom setting, and inspire them to go to college and follow their dreams.
