Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The First Graders my school (Title 1) are very diverse and come from a low-income/high poverty school district. My students' parents work very hard but are unable to donate to my classroom.
My students are hardworking, kind, hilarious and generous.
I want them to have the best educational experience possible. They are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
My students are learning about life cycles and I want them to see first hand how caterpillars grow into butterflies. These materials include for a book about the life cycle of butterflies and kits with live caterpillars. I have also asked for markers and tape to do a butterfly art project.
The best way to learn is to have hands-on experience.
To really understand how the butterfly lifecycle works, I want my students to see it up close and personal. I cannot wait to see their faces when they find out we will be growing butterflies from caterpillars in our classroom!
