This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a Title I school where most students are low income, that has been open two years as the band teacher. The program focuses on DLI; students learn Spanish half of their school day and English the other half.

My students love Band class, are excited to learn, and passionate about playing instruments, but unfortunately many cannot afford to buy one or continually rent one themselves.

I am a firm believer in hands-on learning and believe this is the best way for information to stick. When every student has an instrument this helps the information to stick.

My Project

Right now I have a limited number of instruments in the percussion section which includes snare, bass drum, toms, and cymbals. We need the accessory percussion, such as the cowbell, cabasa, and claves, to be able to play all parts needed in the music we are learning and will be learning. It will give my students a chance to experience playing these different instruments as well as hearing how they work into the music.

I believe all students should have an equal opportunity to experience music as it is written.

With these instruments, they will get that opportunity. Thank you for any help and support you can offer.
