You have been instrumental in bringing my flexible seating project to life. The funding provided allowed me to purchase a variety of flexible seating options, such as standing desks, wobble stools, and bean bags, which allow students to choose seating that works best for their learning style. This has led to greater engagement and comfort in the classroom, as students now have the freedom to choose where and how they work, which has improved their focus and productivity.\r\n\r\nThanks to DonorsChoose, my classroom has transformed into a dynamic space where students can thrive. The ability to offer flexible seating has not only enhanced their physical comfort but also fostered a sense of ownership and responsibility over their learning environment. Your contribution has enriched my students' learning experience and opened up so many opportunities for growth and literature exploration. \r\n\r\nWith these new texts, I have been able to introduce critical reading skills such as identifying themes, making inferences, and comparing cultural perspectives across texts. In a dual-language setting, these books also help my students practice fluency, build vocabulary, and engage deeply with both Spanish and English literature.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is a dynamic and collaborative process. Students have leveled literature partners who challenge them to continue enhancing their literature skills but also provide perspective when readings. Typically, students explore and read the literature with their level partners while I have a small group of students where we work on specific skills such as building vocabulary or proper pronunciation of words. After reading, students discuss ideas to then be shared out loud in group discussions. Through diverse literature, students are able to immerse themselves into the literature, make personal connections to stories, and analyze characters as well as diverse storylines. The new additions to our bilingual classroom library have sparked love for reading and allowed students to make heartfelt connections. \r\n\r\nYour support has transformed our classroom into a space where students not only grow academically but also find joy and representation in literature. It was time to show them how and why understanding those skills is so necessary--in the words of Neil Gaiman, that \"Fiction gives us empathy....fiction is the lie that tells us the truth, over and over.\" Rather than simply answering comprehension questions, students were given big understanding questions to prepare for throughout the week, which culminated in a Socratic Seminar that often began with these guiding questions, but ended with students reflecting upon their own lives, their choices, and how they can shape their own Personal Legends. \r\n\r\nAs a teacher, I found this unit to be inspirational as I watched students who seem disinterested and disengaged from our previous lessons evolve into scholars sharing their ideas and being passionate in their discourse, not only about this piece of literature, but about their own lives.","fullyFundedDate":1728312572078,"projectUrl":"project/which-matters-most-the-journey-or-the/8448060/","projectTitle":"Which Matters Most--the Journey, or the Destination?","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McDonough","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3866244_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689019796651","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3866244"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_109462","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":966,"numTeachers":47,"percentFrplEligible":32,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":78,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"20.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.7,"schoolId":109462,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Paseo Pointe Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Paseo Pointe Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/laveen-elementary-school-district-59/paseo-pointe-elementary-opening-fall-2016-/109462"}
