My Students
I teach in an inclusive classroom setting made up of students with special needs and typical students. The students with special needs have mild, moderate or severe delays. Some of our students are dual language speakers and some are ELL learners.
Typically developing students are kind to students with special needs.
They will take their hands and help them find a seat at the table. They speak clearly and turn towards them when talking. Typical students act as peer models for the students with special needs as well as the ELL learners. They model during snack and work time to help expand vocabulary. They model good play and turn-taking skills during play time. Our dual language students will model language in both English and Spanish for our ELL students.
Preschool is the first traditional schooling experience for many children ages 3-5. As a special education preschool teacher, my assistants and speech/language therapist and I assist in meeting the unique individual needs of each student in a caring and supportive classroom.
My Project
Preschoolers learn by playing and exploring their inside and outside environments. The selected items will give my students opportunities to increase their social/ emotional awareness through cooperative play and sharing.
The bean bag toss, carnival games, and basket ball hoop will encourage better hand/eye coordination and turn taking.
The cones from the carnival games will be used in conjunction with the Drive Time Signs. The signs support the "Roads" unit we are studying. Children will learn what signs mean and how they keep us safe.
Preschoolers love anything small and magnifying glasses will allow them to seek out unseen creatures on the grassy areas and sort them in the muffin tins. Using the drain spouts, students will learn about one type of simple machine. Small items and water will help them learn about levers and flow.
