I teach in an inclusive classroom setting made up of students with special needs and typical students. Some of our students are dual language speakers and some are ELL learners. Typically developing students are patient and kind to students with special needs. They will take their hands and help them find a seat at the table. They speak clearly and turn towards them when talking. Typical students act as peer models for the students with special needs as well as the ELL learners. They model during snack and work time to help expand vocabulary. They model good play and turn-taking skills during play time. Our dual language students will model language in both English and Spanish for our ELL students. As a special education preschool teacher, my assistants and speech/language therapist and I assist in meeting the unique individual needs of each student in a caring and supportive classroom.
