Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a fifth grade teacher in Brooklyn, New York. Our classroom community includes 30 students who love to learn new things. In my school we use the balanced literacy approach to teaching, which means that we have 90 minutes of literacy per day. During this time we have writer's workshop and the children publish twelve pieces of writing throughout the year. The writing they publish ranges from non-fiction books to memoirs to personal and historical essays. What we need in our class are a set of thesauruses that the children can use during the editing portion of their writing process. So many times you hear the words "nice" and "good". My students need to expand their vocabulary and a thesaurus is a perfect tool to get them started with new and exciting vocabulary! These thesauruses will be used throughout the year and for years to follow. We would be extremely greatful if you would take our proposal into consideration.
