Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class consists of thirty-eight males and fifty-six females. Ninety-two percent of the students in my class are part of the free or reduce-priced priced lunch program. Most students come from a blue collar working family. We are in a high poverty location. My class is an essential way for them to be exposed to an engineering field. Project Lead the Way inspires students to seek a career in a STEM field. My class has many diverse nationalities, of which 60% are Hispanic, 30% African American, and the remaining 10% are other races. I have students who are English Language Learners and will benefit from the hands-on learning that they might otherwise not receive.
My Project
My Project Lead the Way students are aspiring engineers. We are currently trying to expand our STEM library. With the requested books, students will be able to work on STEM projects while using our STEM library as a resource. The books will range in topics from coding with Scratch to creating learning about chemical reactions.
The STEM library will have various fun hands-on activities that students can complete during our class and at home.
The books will provide students the opportunity to have additional learning experiences if they are done with their classwork early. The books will also be available for students to take home and continue with their STEM projects at home. Parents will be able to get a glimpse of the many learning experiences that they have in class. The books will also provide additional learning for students to use in their math class.
